Parva Farmhouse
Location
Tintern is set at the southern end of the Wye Valley, on the A466 between Monmouth and Chepstow. Surrounded by steep wooded hillsides, alongside the winding River Wye.
The village stretches for approximately one mile, from the imposing Tintern Abbey in the south, to the secluded Tintern Old Station in the north.
Parva Farmhouse Riverside Guesthouse is situated toward the northern end of the village, next to St. Michael’s Churchyard, on the river side.
How to find us
From the north – Tintern is approx. 10 miles south of Monmouth on the A466. Pass Tintern Old Station and continue for ¼ mile, we are the first building on the left.
From the south – Tintern is approx. 6 miles north of Chepstow on the A466. As you enter the village, pass Tintern Abbey on your right, and continue for ¾ mile and we are the last building on the right as you leave the village.
The car park is between the guesthouse and the river, look out for the concealed driveway (tight turn).
ACCESS STATEMENT
Location.
- We are on the main A466 Monmouth – Chepstow road on the northern fringes of Tintern.
- Local bus stop within 100m.
- Taxis available from Chepstow and Monmouth.
- Nearest railway station is Chepstow – 6 miles.
- Nearest airport is Bristol – 20 miles.
- Nearest motorway is M48 – Jct. 2.
Access. External.
- We have use of a public car park for guest vehicles, access via an 8’(2.5 mtr.) wide laneway at the side of the guesthouse.
- Car park is level with a tarmac surface.
- Lighting is limited to the Guesthouse entrance gateway, path and main door.
- At the gateway there are threee, irregular height (15cm, 18cm, 13cm.) steps up to the path which leads to the front door.
- The path rises gradually and is of slightly uneven paving stones. As you approach the entrance porch there is a further low (8cm.) step up.
Access. Internal.
- The ground floor is level except for a small step (13cm.) into the residents’ lounge.
- The ceiling height in the entrance to the residents’ lounge is 5’8” (1.73m.)
- The residents’ lounge has a wood burning stove in Winter.
- Unisex toilet facilities available on ground floor, in reception area.
- Public, coin operated, telephone available on ground floor, in reception area.
- Restaurant, with open gas fire in Winter, on ground floor.
- All bedrooms are situated on the first and second floors with no lift facility.
- The first floor is reached by 13 x 20cm high stairs with a right hand bend after the third stair.
- The second floor is reached by 15 17cm.stairs with a left hand “U” bend after the fifth stair.
- Bedrooms 1,2 and 4 are located in a long 0.9m wide corridor with a sloping ceiling with a central head height of 1.8m.
- There is a low 17cm step up to bedrooms 1 and 2.
- All bedroom doors have raised brass numbers.
Other general points
- Guide dogs welcome in certain bedrooms and public areas.
- We will endeavour to assist any disabled guests in whatever way possible.
THINGS TO DO
Tintern is ideally situated for lovers of the countryside, with many footpaths, cycle routes and bridle paths in this ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’.
Offa’s Dyke is less than a mile away, the Wye Valley Path passes our front gate, and there are numerous local routes to follow.
Cycle paths abound, with cycle hire centres in the Forest of Dean (we have secure, overnight, lock-up facilities if required).
Fishing is available throughout the Wye Valley.
Railway enthusiasts should visit the attractions in the Forest of Dean, at Lydney, and of course Tintern Old Station.
Castles and historic sites galore (as well as Tintern Abbey), for ardent fans of old ruins, all within reasonable driving time.
Beautiful gardens for the ‘green fingered’, include Dewstow Hidden Gardens (15 mins. drive.)
Golf fans can enjoy many courses including… St. Pierre, Celtic Manor, Rolls of Monmouth and more.
Horse racing enthusiasts can visit Chepstow Racecourse (seven mins. drive) where you can enjoy the ‘Sport of Kings’.
The major towns and cities, Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Chepstow, Monmouth and Hereford, are all within an hour’s drive time for a bit of retail therapy.
